Saturday 23 rd December was a perfect day after all the rain. Libby, Astrid, Vanessa and Charmaine arrived at Hoby Point at 6.30 am to secure the spot for the picnic/braai. We had our breakfast of Hot Cross Buns and coffee whilst waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. The grass had been recently cut and there was plenty of shade. 22 members gathered for the beach walk. The dam being very low, we were able to walk along the shore which was certainly preferable to road walking.
There were lots of people gathering to launch boats, swim and picnic so there was a very festive atmosphere. We passed some fishermen on the way plus some interesting camping sites. The lower photo looks like the family had set up permanent camp!!
The hike was very leisurely and not too long as it was very hot. Members were given the option to return along the road from the camp site or return via the beach. A few opted for the beach walk back to the picnic site where our braai master, Chris Dobson, had the fires lit and ready for those who wished to braai.
It was great that some of our members from Kloof/Westville/Durban could join us for the day.
