Report by Eric Essenwein

A nice adventurous hiking time was had with Brian, Linda, Donald, Lynda and Eric.

We arrived at Rocky Bay on Friday afternoon. We had to take a few detours on the way due to some of the roads around Scottborough being damaged from the recent floods in the area.

We had a braai that evening with a beautiful view of the moonlight over the ocean, and discussed which route we would hike on the next day.

Some of us got up early the next morning and had coffee and watched the sunrise.

We left at 9am and walked to the start of the trails outside the camp site entrance. There was a good sign board showing the various routes available.

We decided to take the 8km trail. This took us through sugar cane and natural forest with some nice views of the area. We had our tea at a spot overlooking a lake.
The paths were all cleared very nicely and were well signed for the various routes.

That afternoon we did a beach walk to the Happy Wanderers caravan park. We started from Rocky Bay climbing over some large boulders to get to the beach. It started raining on the way, forcing us to take shelter in the natural bush there for a while. We then had a nice well deserved drink at the Happy Wanders bar being served from an old ship !!!

Rain yet again on Sunday – luckily by the time we decided to pack up the sun had come out enough to dry the tent.

A very big thank you to Brian Henwood for organising and leading a very enjoyable hiking weekend.
